LT Andrew Baldwin, M.D., a Diving Medical Officer assigned to Mobile Diving Salvage Unit ONE completed the Ironman World Championship Triathlon on October 21st 2006 on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is his sixth Ironman race. Competing in this event of world class athletes with over 1800 participants, he placed an impressive 234th overall and was the 3rd fastest active duty military finisher. He completed the choppy open water 2.4 mile swim (his strongsuit) in just over 57 minutes and exited in 20th place. The bike portion through 112 miles of lava fields, Baldwin covered in 5 hours and 4 minutes. He then finished the race off by completing a 26.2 mile marathon in blistering hot conditions in 3 hours and 36 minutes. He completed the entire triathlon with an impressive time of 9 hours 45 minutes and 11 seconds.

"I enjoy the competition and more so the challenge" said LT Baldwin, "Each year I look forward to the opportunity to beat my previous record- after this year, next year will be a challenge"

 "Raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and named ESPN's National Scholar Athlete of the Year when he graduated from high school as his class valedictorian in 1995, Baldwin is a 30-year-old undersea medical officer for a special operations dive unit stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Baldwin grew up in a family modest means and, after working three jobs and saving $25,000 for college before graduating high school, attended Duke University on a full ROTC scholarship. After graduating from Duke with honors and earning a varsity letter on the school's swim team, he attended the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine and was a surgical intern at Naval Hospital San Diego."
